About WIX

WIX Filters is an American filtration brand founded in 1939 in Gastonia, North Carolina. The brand built a reputation through the second half of the 20th century as a heavy-duty filter supplier — strong in the agricultural, commercial and industrial markets as well as passenger cars. WIX is now part of MANN+HUMMEL following the 2016 acquisition, which means the global filtration engineering base behind WIX is now shared with MANN-Filter — two brands, similar engineering bench, different historical market positions.

What WIX is best known for

WIX's reputation in the US market was built on the heavy-duty side: tractor oil filters, fleet truck oil filters, hydraulic filters and air-induction systems where the filter has to survive a lot of dust. The spin-on construction is heavily built — thicker can wall, larger element area, higher burst pressure than a typical passenger-car economy filter.

For UK passenger-car applications, the WIX range covers the European and American car parc with OE-specification oil, fuel and cabin filters. The constructional standards are higher than budget alternatives, which gives a margin of safety for high-mileage and high-stress applications.

When to choose WIX

For passenger-car oil filters on most applications — WIX is a strong mid-market-to-OE-equivalent choice. For commercial vehicles, agricultural equipment, fleet vehicles or anything where the filter has to work hard, WIX's heavy-duty construction is a sensible step up from budget filters. For premium European vehicles where MANN-Filter or Hengst is the OE supplier, those brands are the direct OE choice — but WIX shares the MANN+HUMMEL technical base and is a credible alternative.
