About Mobil

Mobil is the lubricants brand of ExxonMobil, the American oil major. The flagship product line — Mobil 1 — is one of the most widely-recognised fully-synthetic engine oils in the world, holding OE approvals from a long list of manufacturers: Mercedes-Benz, BMW, VAG, Porsche, Aston Martin, McLaren, Bentley, Corvette and most major Japanese and Korean OEMs. Mobil also supplies the Mobil Super (semi-synthetic) and Mobil Delvac (heavy-duty diesel) ranges.

Why OE approval matters more than viscosity numbers

Two oils of the same viscosity (5W-30, 0W-20) can behave very differently in an engine — the additive package controls how the oil resists oxidation, how well it protects against wear, how it handles bio-content in modern fuels, and how it behaves at temperature extremes. OE approvals (Mercedes MB229.5, BMW Longlife-04, VW 504/507, Porsche A40 etc.) are specifications written by the engine manufacturer that an oil has to meet — they're tested-and-approved, not just self-certified.

Mobil 1 holds many of the highest-tier OE approvals. For a Mercedes diesel needing MB229.51, for a BMW Longlife petrol, for a VW 504/507 long-drain spec, Mobil 1 is one of the few oils that carries the formal manufacturer approval needed to maintain the warranty.

When to choose Mobil

For premium European vehicles where the OE oil specification is documented (MB229.x, BMW LL-x, VW 50x.xx, Porsche Ax, GM dexos) — Mobil 1 is one of the safest choices and often comes recommended by the OE itself. For older vehicles where viscosity is the only requirement, Mobil Super semi-synthetic is a sensible mid-market choice. For high-mileage diesels and commercial vehicles, Mobil Delvac is the heavy-duty range.
