About Hella

Hella was founded in 1899 in Lippstadt, Germany, and grew into one of the largest OE lighting and automotive electronics suppliers in Europe. The company is now part of the Forvia group following the 2021 merger with Faurecia. Hella supplies headlamps, tail lamps, lighting modules, bulbs, relays, sensors, switches, fuses, electronic control units and A/C compressors to most European manufacturers — VAG, BMW, Mercedes, PSA, Renault, Volvo, Ford and Vauxhall all use Hella OE components in significant volume.

What Hella supplies on most cars

Headlamp and tail-lamp assemblies — Hella is the OE supplier of the complete lamp unit on many vehicles. For accident-damaged repair work, the Hella aftermarket assembly is often the OE-identical part with the same E-mark, sealing and beam pattern. Critically, the headlamp washer system uses Hella sensors and pumps as OE on most of the German cars that require them.

Bulbs — Hella's bulb range covers halogen H-base, signal lamps and LED replacements with quality comparable to OSRAM and Philips.

Sensors and relays — Hella is the OE supplier for many lambda sensors, ABS sensors, MAP sensors and temperature sensors. Relays and fuse boxes on European cars are very often Hella.

Thermal management — A/C compressors, fan motors, electric water pumps and resistor packs are a strong Hella category.

When to choose Hella

For headlamp replacement after accident damage, Hella is usually the direct OE-equivalent. For relays, fuses and sensors on European cars, Hella is often the OE supplier and using a different brand can introduce subtle issues. For A/C compressors and electric water pumps on VAG, BMW and Mercedes applications, Hella is the OE choice.
