About Elring

Elring is the OE supplier of choice when a German vehicle manufacturer needs a sealing problem solved. Founded in 1879 in Fellbach near Stuttgart, the company is part of ElringKlinger AG and supplies cylinder-head gaskets, oil-sump seals, valve-cover gaskets, intake-manifold gaskets and engine-rebuild sets to nearly every European OE assembly line — Volkswagen Group, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, Volvo and the rest.

What they actually do

Sealing technology sounds simple until you realise that a modern cylinder-head gasket has to survive temperatures from -40°C to over 250°C, take a clamping load measured in tonnes, resist coolant, oil and combustion gases simultaneously, and last 150,000+ km without leaking. Elring designs multi-layer steel (MLS) gaskets that use elastomeric coatings and embossed stopper profiles to seal those extremes — exactly the same parts you'll find inside a brand-new BMW, Audi or Mercedes off the line.

Their range covers more than just head gaskets. Elring's exhaust-manifold gaskets, turbo seals, lambda-sensor seals, thermostat housings and timing-cover sealing kits cover most modern petrol and diesel engines. The "Elring Service" kits are particularly useful: they bundle every gasket and seal you need for a specific job (timing-belt service, head-gasket job, sump-gasket replacement) into a single part number, with the same OE-quality parts.

When to choose Elring

If the original gasket is going on a head you've just had skimmed — Elring. If you're doing a timing-belt service that involves removing the camshaft cover or front cover — Elring service kit. If the original failed prematurely (most don't — head-gasket failures usually point to a deeper cause like coolant loss or detonation) — replace with Elring, not a budget alternative.

For exhaust manifold gaskets, Elring tends to use the right combination of graphite and stainless-steel layers for the operating temperature — cheaper gaskets in the same fit can fail within a year on heavily-driven turbo engines.
