About Denso
Denso is the second-largest automotive parts supplier in the world (after Bosch) and the historical OE supplier to Toyota β the two companies share early history, with Denso spun out of Toyota in 1949 as a dedicated parts manufacturer. Today Denso supplies OE to Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, and a long list of European and American manufacturers besides.
The categories Denso owns
Spark plugs and glow plugs β Denso iridium spark plugs are the OE on most Toyotas (and many Hondas, Mazdas, Subarus). The Iridium Power and Iridium TT ranges use very fine iridium centre electrodes that last 60,000-100,000 miles on most engines. For glow plugs (diesel), Denso is one of the dominant OE suppliers and the aftermarket parts match the original specification.
Sensors β lambda (oxygen) sensors, air-flow sensors, MAP sensors, knock sensors β Denso supplies many of these as OE to Asian vehicles. A Denso lambda sensor is usually a direct replacement that won't throw codes or affect lambda control.
Air conditioning β Denso is one of the world's largest A/C compressor manufacturers and the OE supplier on most Toyotas, Hondas and Mazdas. The aftermarket compressors are remanufactured to OE specification.
Filters and other service items β oil filters, cabin filters, fuel filters; less prominent than the ignition and sensor ranges but solid coverage.
When to choose Denso
For spark plugs on Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Subaru, Mitsubishi or Suzuki β Denso is almost always the OE choice and using a different brand can affect timing/knock control on some engines. For glow plugs on most modern diesels, Denso is one of the safer options.
For lambda sensors and other sensors β if Denso is the OE, stay with Denso; a different brand can throw codes or affect closed-loop fuel trim.
