About Delphi
Delphi has a complicated corporate history β originally General Motors' parts division, spun out in 1999, restructured multiple times, and the aftermarket business is now part of BorgWarner. What's stayed consistent throughout is the depth of engineering on diesel injection systems and ignition components.
Where Delphi is genuinely strong
Diesel injection is the historical core. Delphi (along with Bosch) is one of the two main suppliers of common-rail diesel injection systems on UK vehicles. The Delphi injectors fitted to many Ford, PSA Group (Peugeot/Citroen) and Renault diesels in the 2000s-2010s are direct from the OE production line, and Delphi remanufactures injectors back to original calibration β important for the modern common-rail system where fuel-pulse timing is measured in microseconds and even small calibration drift can cause smoke, misfires or poor cold-start.
Common-rail high-pressure pumps β Delphi's range covers most of the engines they were OE on, with the same calibration as the factory part.
Ignition components β coils, leads, plugs on petrol applications.
Brake and steering parts β pads, discs, callipers, ABS sensors, steering racks. Reasonable coverage but not the brand's specialty.
When to choose Delphi
For diesel injection work on Ford, Peugeot, Citroen, Renault and other vehicles where Delphi was the OE supplier β staying with Delphi means the injector calibration matches the engine map, and the high-pressure pump's pressure characteristics are right. A different brand can cause smoke, hard starts and DPF regeneration problems.
For other parts categories, Delphi is competitive but the specialist brands often have an edge.
