About Borg & Beck

Borg & Beck has been on British cars since 1903. The name comes from the merger of two earlier US companies that brought their friction-and-clutch technology to the UK in the mid-20th century; today the brand is part of First Line Limited and specifically focuses on clutches, brake friction and engine cooling components.

What they're known for

Clutches are the historical core of the business and still where Borg & Beck has its strongest reputation. Their three-piece kits (cover assembly, driven plate, release bearing) and complete kits (with concentric slave cylinder or dual-mass flywheel where applicable) cover most UK vehicles, with particularly strong coverage on Ford, Vauxhall, Renault, Citroen and Peugeot vehicles where they were historically the OE supplier.

The friction material in the driven plate is engineered to match the original torque rating and engagement feel — a Borg & Beck clutch shouldn't feel different from the original when it leaves the dealer, just newer. For uprated applications (towing, performance) the Heavy Duty range uses different friction compound with higher temperature tolerance.

Brake friction — pads, discs, drums, shoes — is the other major range. Coverage is broader than the clutch range; technical specification is comparable to other quality aftermarket suppliers.

When to choose Borg & Beck

For clutch replacement on most British, European and Japanese cars — Borg & Beck is one of the strongest aftermarket choices. The cover plate, driven plate and bearing match the original geometry and the kit comes with all the small parts you need (alignment tool, grease) so you're not chasing missing bits halfway through the job.

For brakes, Borg & Beck is competitive but the friction specialists (Brembo, Mintex, Textar, Apec) have a slight edge on pad-disc matched performance. For a standard service, Borg & Beck brakes are fine.
