BM Catalysts is a British manufacturer of catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters, headquartered in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. The company is one of the largest aftermarket cat manufacturers in Europe and supplies type-approved replacement catalysts for almost the entire UK car parc — important because, since 2011, fitting a non-type-approved replacement catalyst to a road vehicle has not been legal.

Why type approval matters for cats

A catalytic converter contains precious-metal-coated ceramic substrate (platinum, palladium, rhodium) engineered to convert specific exhaust emissions at the temperature and flow rate of a specific engine. A type-approved cat carries an "e" mark indicating it has been independently tested and certified to meet the emissions targets of that engine family — meaning the car will pass its MOT emissions test and remain legal on the road.
