About Beru

Beru AG was founded in 1912 in Ludwigsburg, Germany, originally as a manufacturer of spark plugs and ignition components for the early German motor industry. The brand is now part of BorgWarner (via Federal-Mogul) and is one of the OE suppliers of glow plugs and ignition components to BMW, Mercedes, Audi and other German manufacturers.

Where Beru is the OE choice

Glow plugs are the strongest Beru specialty — particularly the ceramic ISS (Instant Start System) glow plugs that warm up in under 2 seconds and allow fast cold-starts on modern diesel engines without a long "wait to start" lamp. Beru ceramic glow plugs are the OE fitment on most modern German diesels (BMW, Audi, Mercedes) and the aftermarket parts are direct from the same factory.

Ignition coils — Beru is OE on a number of European petrol engines, particularly BMW and Mercedes. The coil-on-plug units match the OE specification for high-voltage output, coil resistance and connector geometry.

Spark plugs — coverage across petrol applications, with iridium and copper-core options matching OE specifications.

Other ignition — pressure sensors, intake-air temperature sensors, and a range of related electrical components.

When to choose Beru

For glow plugs on any modern diesel — Beru is one of the strongest choices, particularly the ISS ceramic range for fast cold-start. The plugs heat up faster, last longer and don't break off in the head as easily as some cheaper metal-element glow plugs.

For ignition coils on German petrol engines where Beru was OE — staying with Beru means the high-voltage output and coil-pack geometry match the original. A different brand can throw misfire codes on sensitive ECUs.
