The Red range is Apec's top aftermarket tier — premium pad compounds and higher-specification discs designed for performance-oriented vehicles or owners who want the closest aftermarket match to OE premium brake systems. Apec is a UK brake specialist founded in 1972 in Coventry, focused solely on braking systems.

What's in the Red range

Red-range pads use ceramic or low-metallic compounds engineered for consistent high-temperature performance with lower dust output than typical performance pads. The compound is designed to grip strongly when cold (the first stop on a winter morning), maintain bite across the full operating temperature range, and produce less visible wheel dust than aggressive metallic compounds.

The discs in the Red range use uprated cast-iron blends with higher fade resistance, and many fitments use drilled-and-grooved patterns to improve gas evacuation and water dispersal. Disc thickness and venting match or exceed the OE specification for the platforms covered.

When to choose Apec Red

For premium German vehicles where the OE pad is a low-dust ceramic compound (BMW, Audi, Mercedes) — Apec Red is one of the strongest UK-priced aftermarket choices to match that performance and dust behaviour. For high-performance hatches and saloons used hard — Red gives premium feel without paying full specialist-brand prices.

For a standard service on a normal daily-driver — Red is overspecified; Black or Blue is more appropriate to the use case. For full-on motorsport or trackday use, a dedicated motorsport compound (Mintex motorsport, Brembo Racing) is typically the right call.
